Project DELIGHT
Strengthening Foundations at Lower Primary @ Greenwood Primary School: Project DELIGHT
What is Project DELIGHT?
DELIGHT (Discover, Explore, Learn & Investigate in Groups Happily Together)
Our school aims to make learning a DELIGHT-FUL journey through instilling the joy of learning with hands-on and authentic learning experiences.
Our efforts are centered on strengthening the foundation of young learners (lower primary students) by fostering in them a positive attitude towards learning and equipping them with skills to develop into lifelong learners.
Our Beliefs
-
Every child can learn.
-
Every child can be inspired to become lifelong learners if they experience the joy of learning.
-
Every child should be provided with the opportunity to experience different types of learning.
Our areas of focus to strengthen foundations of lower primary students:
Laying the Foundation Well at Primary 1 and Primary 2
-
Build a strong foundation for lifelong learning, starting from pre-school and transiting to primary 1
-
Shift the emphasis away from grades to the joy of learning and having an intrinsic motivation
Facilitating a Smooth Transition from Pre-school to Primary School
We help students to familiarise and settle down easily in the new environment through:
-
creating a vibrant learning environment
-
orientation programmes for primary 1 students
-
promoting an intrinsic motivation to learn through a celebration of students’ achievement at the end of Term 1 (Celebrating My Milestones)
Promote Joy of Learning
-
Providing opportunities to experience collaborative tasks which are differentiated based on student readiness and interest through inter-disciplinary (English language, mathematics, mother tongue languages, science, art, music, physical education and information communication technology skills) learning centres
-
Providing authentic learning experiences through learning journeys
Developing a Positive Attitude towards Learning
-
Developing SEL competencies through structured PAL lessons focusing on the reflection process
-
Developing character through the school-based character education programmes
Reimagining learning space
To promote literacy and learning and enhance accessibility for lower primary students, the school revamped and created a new lower primary library.
“Wonder in the Woods” Library features:
-
Collaborative Space
-
Reading Space
-
Self-expression Space
Beyond serving as a space for exploration and the quenching of curiosity, the library also stands as a haven for contemplation. It provides visitors with an opportunity to pause, reflect, and glean insights from their exploratory journeys and adventures.
TRANSIT classroom for selected students
TRANSIT classroom has been redesigned to provide additional support for selected students. Students learn and build self-management skills and smoothen transition from preschool to primary school.
