Total Defence Day
Each year Total Defence Day (TDD) is commemorated on the 15th February. It marks Singapore's fall to the Japanese in 1942. The commemoration of Total Defence Day seeks to remind people of the sufferings endured by our fore fathers during the Japanese Occupation. The theme for this year’s Total Defence Day is ‘Together We Keep Singapore Strong’. To commemorate Total Defence Day, our school has organized a series of activities for pupils to know more about the 5 pillars of Total Defence and the role that they can play in Total Defence. The activities included TDD booths at the e-space in the canteen whereby pupils can take part in games such as preparing a ready bag for emergency use, card games and puzzles using scenarios related to the 5 pillars of TDD and photo taking session of pupils wearing police and army uniforms.
There is also an assembly talk on Total Defence titled ‘Together We Defend’ by Funplay Workshop to raise pupils’ awareness on TDD.
Pupils also learnt more about TDD during CCE lessons through the resource package designed for each level. More interestingly, they also wrote notes of appreciation to the healthcare workers to thank them for their contribution towards the country. The appreciation notes were given to Yishun Community Hospital to appreciate their efforts in serving our community.
The NE Ambassadors played an active role in promoting the TDD activities by encouraging pupils to take part in the recess activities and helping out at the booths during recess. The Primary 5 NE Ambassadors also participated in the 51st War Memorial Service in commemoration of civilian victims of the Japanese Occupation and Total Defence Day commemoration on 15 February 2019.
